April & May

April 11. Evening hike to the Tram. We are going to meet at 5:30 at the Tram Trailhead on Basin Road and hike up. Look for Carl at the trailhead.

April 13. Ice climbing Mendenhall Glacier.  Pete Boyd is leading a trip to the glacier to climb ice on Friday. If you are available on Friday, this could be fun. The plan is to top rope and climb. You will need crampons, a harness, and ice tools. You may be able to borrow the latter. Access to the glacier is to hike West Glacier trail. If you are interested, email Pete by Wednesday evening. prb518@gmail.com

April 14. Mount Jumbo. Pete Boyd is leading a trip up Mount Jumbo.  You will need winter gear that could include backcountry skis, snowshoes, and/or crampons. Contact Pete by Thursday for more info. prb518@gmail.com

April 18. Self arrest and Ice Axe practice. Carl Reese and Meredith Trainor are leading a self arrest and ice axe use practice at Eaglecrest in the evening. We will meet at Eaglecrest at 5:30 PM in front of the Porcupine Lodge, hike uphill to where we find a steep slope and fall down the hill and practice using an axe to stop. For more info contact Carl 723-9323

April 23.  Pirate Shore.  Develop rock climbing along the shore between Amalga Harbor and Boy Scout Beach. We are going to clean some rocks, brush some trails, and climb some rocks. If you are interested, please call  or text Carl before Saturday at 7PM. 723-9323. Note we originally planned a ski trip this weekend but the snow is hard as diamonds right now.

April 29-30. Alex Burkhart is leading a trip to the Grandchild Peaks. If the weather permits this will be an overnight trip that will involve snow camping.  Talk to Alex about gear and preparedness. It’s a moderate trip but you don’t want to find yourself at snowline unprepared for conditions. Avalanche gear and an understanding of how to use them may be needed as well depending on snow conditions.

If interested contact Alex alex.burkhart@gmail.com before April 28th at 7PM.  The trip is weather dependent.424968_298411646893303_559605666_n(1)

The plan is to go out to Amalga area and make some trails to some cliffs we have been developing and climb if it’s not too wet. You will need a harness and climbing shoes if you want to climb.   Experience isn’t necessary.  If interested, contact Carl by 6PM May 13.

May 16 or 17. If anyone is interested in climbing Hawthorn peak Tue 5/16 or Wed 5/17 contact Pete Boyd (prb518@gmail.com).  This is a moderate climb requiring ice axe, crampons, snowshoes/skis. Will be an early start.  Weather next week is looking good.
