February 27th, Mt McGinnis winter climb. Carl Reese will lead a climb up Mount McGinnis. The winter McGinnis climb is a long time standard for the club. This climb requires ice axe, crampons, and snowshoes. It’s a difficult climb and you should know how to self arrest with an ice axe. Depending upon conditions the trip leader may require avalanche gear. Sunday is a backup day. If you are interested contact Carl (723-9323) before 7PM February 26th.
March 5. Ice Axe/self arrest practice. We are going to practice self arrest with an ice axe from 3:45 PM til dark (6PM) at Eaglecrest. We will find a nice slope and fall down it with the goal of practicing self arrest. No experience necessary. Note, Hooter, Ptarmigan, and Black Bear chairs are closed due to low snow so we will walk up. Try to bring an ice axe but we can share if you don’t have one. Meet Carl by the Porcupine Lodge at 3:45PM.
March 6. Mount Jumbo. Dani Evenson is leading a trip up Mount Jumbo. This is a moderate climb. Depending on snow conditions, snow shoes, crampons, and ice axe may be needed. Some people have done this on backcountry ski gear or split board. For more into contact Dani by 7PM Saturday March 5 if interested. firstname.lastname@example.org .
March 12-13. GrandChild Peaks backcountry ski overnighter. Carl Reese and Jessica Landry are leading a trip to the Grandchild Peaks. We are doing this as both an overnighter and a day trip. Carl is going up for the day, skiing some laps, and heading back down. Jessica is camping up there over night. If the weather permits this will be an overnight trip that will involve winter camping. Talk to the trip leaders about gear and preparedness. It’s a moderate trip but you don’t want to find yourself at snowline unprepared for conditions. Avalanche gear and an understanding of how to use them may be needed as well depending on snow conditions.
If interested contact Carl 723-9323 or Jessica 723-0750 before March 11th at 7PM. The trip is weather dependent.
March 17. Rock Climbing at the Sea Cliffs. The weather is looking good this afternoon so we canceled Thursday climbing at the Rock Dump and plan to go to the Sea Cliffs and climb. We plan to meet at Gonzo’s (the old Waffle Co.) and head out the road from there. You will need a harness and climbing shoes at a minimum. If you have other gear you could bring that. The Sea Cliffs have top ropes sites so no experience is needed. If interested contact Carl 723-9323
March 20. West Peak –Bob is leading a trip up West Peak. This is a moderate climb and equipment needed depends upon conditions. If interested call Bob before 7PM Saturday March 19th. 500-7950.
April 13. Monthly meeting OUTSIDE at 5:30 PM. We plan to have our monthly meeting at the Sea Cliffs. Usually our monthly meetings are indoors but we are trying something outside this time. We plan to meet at GONZO (old Waffle Co) at 5:30 and carpool out the road. Wednesday evening is supposed to have reasonable weather and it’s nice out there even if you don’t want to climb. If you want to climb, no experience needed. We will plan upcoming climbs and hikes. All are welcome. Come with ideas or to meet other mountaineering folks. If you plan on going, call or text Carl first. 723-9323
