February 4. Somewhat Serious Monkey Climbing. We meet at the Rock Dump to make a somewhat serious attempt to climb like monkeys. The goal is to develop endurance by climbing lots of climbs at an easy level and supplement that with exercises intended to build strength and agility. Pete and Carl are instigating. We meet at 5:30 PM. No experience necessary. You can rent shoes for $3 and they will loan you a harness for free. If you do not have a pass the Rock Dump costs $13. All are welcome and no previous experience necessary. We are probably going to do this every Thursday.
February 6. Spaulding Meadows – Peterson Lake Traverse. Postponed, trip leader out of town.
February 11. Backcountry Film Festival. This isn’t a Juneau Alpine Club event but it fits the likes of many of you. It’s at Rockwell on Thursday at 7PM. LINK. Somewhat Serious Monkey Climbing is postponed this week.
Feb 13-15: Eagle Glacier Cabin long weekend. The club has the cabin Friday and Saturday nights. Anyone interested in staying at the Eagle Glacier Cabin that weekend must call Katt Turley (organizer) at 988-5288 by Feb 9 by 6 PM to get details and to let her know you will be there (very important). Day hikers are welcome any day. Space is limited.
February 23 Annual Meeting and board elections. The Club will provide pizza. Meeting at the Pizzaria Roma 6:30 PM. We will plan upcoming climbs and hikes. We will also elect board members. All are welcome. Come with ideas or to meet other mountaineering folks.
